About South Asian SOAR

South Asian SOAR is home to a powerful, long-standing movement to end gender-based violence in the South Asian American diaspora. Since our founding in 2021, we’ve grown into a national network of 45+ grassroots organizations and over 200 survivors and allies united in our commitment to prevent and end violence. Together, we center survivors’ voices, build collective power, and strengthen the field to create a future free of violence and abundant with joy and justice.

Our groundbreaking work has been mentioned in NBC Asian America, Gothamist, and Prism. You can find more of their work at these links: Their Light Remains, Sanctuaries Storytelling Anthology, Research Reports, and their South Asians for Abortion Hub.

About SOAR’s Advisory Board

SOAR’s Advisory Board* plays a vital role in shaping strategy, advancing our mission, and amplifying our work as we grow. As a member, you’ll collaborate closely with the team and fellow leaders to craft and guide national strategy—helping scale our impact and strengthen the movement to end gender-based violence in South Asian communities.

SOAR is seeking new Advisory Board members to begin their terms in October 2025. We welcome leaders from across the U.S., especially those with experience in institutional or individual fundraising, communications, public policy and advocacy, survivor leadership and community organizing, grantmaking, coalition building, and legal or financial expertise. We seek to build an Advisory Board that bridges diverse perspectives—survivor, community-based, and national—rooted in SOAR’s values and a shared commitment to justice.

*As a fiscally sponsored project of the Social Good Fund, SOAR’s Advisory Board holds several responsibilities of a traditional Board of Directors, though legal governance rests with our sponsor’s Board.

The Advisory Board serves as a trusted partner to advance SOAR’s work through:

Ambassadorship & Amplification: Champion SOAR’s mission and amplify our work through your networks, public platforms, and partnerships.

Resource Mobilization: Support SOAR’s financial sustainability by cultivating relationships with donors, funders, and strategic partners. Members may contribute through direct giving, fundraising, and connecting SOAR to creative or collective giving opportunities.

Strategic Guidance & Program Insight: Provide thought partnership across SOAR’s core strategies—advocacy, coalition building, research, communications, and rapid response.

Leadership & Governance: Support the growth and evaluation of SOAR’s leadership and board. Responsibilities include participating in annual leadership reviews, advising on governance structures, and supporting succession planning.

Financial Oversight: Review and approve SOAR’s annual budget to ensure transparency, sustainability, and responsible growth.

We encourage nominations from individuals who have experienced gender-based violence and those who hold marginalized identities across our communities. While we welcome members who are not South Asian, we also strive for representation across caste, religion, gender, sexuality, ancestry, ability, age, and class within the South Asian diaspora.

Advisory Board Member Expectations:

  • Time Commitment: Approximately 6 - 10 hours per month

  • Term Length: Two 2-year terms (maximum of 4 years), with the option to serve an additional year upon request.

  • Meeting Attendance: Attend four annual virtual board meetings (held quarterly, 2 hours each)

  • Committee Participation: Actively serve on at least one Advisory Board committee

  • Financial Contribution: Make a personally significant annual contribution that reflects your deep commitment to SOAR’s mission and work.

  • Values: Uphold, practice, and continually learn about SOAR’s values and commitments.
